Method and calculation

Apply Gaussian blur only inside a selected rectangular image area.

Inputs and settings

Blur Image Region accepts Left (%) (minimum 0, maximum 100); Top (%) (minimum 0, maximum 100); Width (%) (minimum 0, maximum 100); Height (%) (minimum 0, maximum 100); Blur radius (pixels) (minimum 1, maximum 60).

Worked example

Blur Image Region example — Left (%): 25; Top (%): 25; Width (%): 50; Height (%): 25; Blur radius (pixels): 12. Preview instructions: Select a still photo, then use Left (%): 25; Top (%): 25; Width (%): 50; Height (%): 25; Blur radius (pixels): 12. The result is a PNG with apply Gaussian blur only inside a selected rectangular image area.

Output and limitations

Only the selected rectangle is replaced by samples from a blurred full-size layer. Surrounding context contributes to the Gaussian blur near the rectangle boundary. Blur retains statistical information and should be used for visual emphasis, not confidential document masking.
