Method and calculation

Render local brightness as variable-radius ink dots on a paper-colored grid.

Inputs and settings

Halftone Image accepts Cell size (pixels) (minimum 3, maximum 80); Ink color; Paper color.

Worked example

Halftone Image example — Cell size (pixels): 12; Ink color: "#111111"; Paper color: "#ffffff". Preview instructions: Select a still photo, then use Cell size (pixels): 12; Ink color: "#111111"; Paper color: "#ffffff". The result is a PNG with render local brightness as variable-radius ink dots on a paper-colored grid.

Output and limitations

Dark grid cells produce larger ink disks and bright cells produce smaller disks. Cell size determines the coarse printed texture. This is a raster dot pattern suitable for posters; it does not generate vector circles or commercial CMYK screen separations.
