Represent amplitude over time
A waveform plots sample amplitude rather than perceived loudness or musical pitch. Dense sections may look consistently tall while pauses appear close to the center line.
Retain narrow transients
Each horizontal pixel covers a source interval and displays its minimum and maximum values. Peak aggregation helps short impulses remain visible instead of disappearing through single-sample visual downsampling.
Design a clean asset
Select the waveform color and choose an image height from 240 to 960 pixels. A fixed 1600-pixel width makes the PNG suitable for a presentation, podcast graphic or documentation page.
Keep channels visually separate
Stereo recordings receive two stacked lanes, making left/right differences visible. The picture carries no audio stream or embedded play button; distribute the sound file separately when listeners need playback.
