SHA256 Hash Generator
Calculate a SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 digest from text. Compare deterministic hexadecimal hashes when checking whether two exact text values match.
- Choose three SHA-2 digest algorithms
- Hash text as UTF-8 bytes
- Copy a hexadecimal digest
Hash the precise input
Paste the text and choose an algorithm. Spaces, capitalization and line endings affect the bytes and therefore the digest.
Recognize digest lengths
SHA-256 produces 64 hexadecimal characters, SHA-384 produces 96, and SHA-512 produces 128. A longer digest is not encrypted text.
Compare like with like
Use the same algorithm and exact text encoding on both sides. Visually identical Unicode strings can have different byte representations.
Keep password storage separate
A fast SHA digest alone is not a password-storage scheme. Use an appropriate password-hashing system with salts and work factors in your application.

Text Hash Generator FAQs
No. Hashing is one-way; it is not reversible encryption.
This page hashes pasted text only. It does not read the raw bytes of an uploaded file.
A trailing newline, different line endings or a visually similar Unicode character can change the input bytes. Compare the exact text and use the same SHA algorithm on both sides. This page hashes text, not the original bytes of an uploaded file.
