Remove DC Offset
Subtract the average sample value from each audio channel. Recenter a recording with a constant DC offset before further editing or level adjustment.
- Measure each channel’s mean sample value
- Subtract constant channel offsets
- Retain the recording’s duration
Understand the offset
A DC offset shifts a waveform away from zero. It can waste headroom and contribute to discontinuities at editing boundaries.
Process channels independently
Each channel’s average is calculated separately. A different offset on the left and right therefore receives a different correction.
Check boundaries after correction
Removing the mean does not guarantee click-free cuts. A boundary can still jump between different instantaneous sample values.
Keep noise removal separate
Hiss, hum and changing background sound are not a constant mean value. This operation is not a denoiser or a substitute for filtering.

Remove DC Offset FAQs
Not by itself. Hum varies over time; subtracting a constant offset does not remove its frequency components.
No. It subtracts the channel mean, rather than applying a general high-pass filter.
No. DC offset is a constant displacement of the waveform’s mean. Hum oscillates over time and usually needs frequency-selective treatment. This operation subtracts the channel mean; it does not identify noise frequencies or isolate a voice.
Remove DC Offset schedules a background render after a setting changes. The completed preview or analysis replaces the previous result automatically. Processing time depends on recording length and device performance; the status message shows when the new result is ready.
