Stereo to Mono Converter

or drop files here

Combine a stereo recording into a single mono channel. Average the channel samples and save a WAV suitable for workflows that need one channel.

Combine the channel content

Left and right contributions are averaged, so the result contains both rather than simply discarding one side.

Check phase compatibility

Opposite-polarity material can cancel when averaged. Listen for missing vocals or a thinner sound after conversion.

Choose extraction for a single side

If only the left or right channel contains the recording you need, use Audio Channel Extractor instead of averaging both.

Understand the spatial tradeoff

Mono removes left/right separation. It can simplify a spoken recording, but a wide music mix will lose its stereo placement.

Stereo to Mono FAQs

Signals that differ in polarity or phase can partially cancel when channels are combined.
At matching PCM settings it uses half the stereo sample data, but comparing against compressed source files is different.
If each speaker occupies a different side, downmixing combines both into mono. If one side contains unwanted sound, extract the cleaner channel instead. Listen to the mono result because opposite-polarity material can cancel when channels are averaged.
Stereo to Mono schedules a background render after a setting changes. The completed preview or analysis replaces the previous result automatically. Processing time depends on recording length and device performance; the status message shows when the new result is ready.
