File Size Converter
Compare decimal and binary data-size units. Convert bytes, kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes without confusing factors of 1,000 with factors of 1,024.
- Convert decimal and binary size units
- Distinguish MB from MiB explicitly
- Compare sizes without uploading a file
Choose the unit shown by the source
Decimal kB, MB, GB and TB use powers of 1,000. Binary KiB, MiB, GiB and TiB use powers of 1,024.
Understand storage differences
A capacity reported in GB can have a smaller numeric value when displayed in GiB. The underlying byte count has not changed.
Compare an upload limit
Convert both your file size and the stated limit to the same unit. Check whether the service defines its limit in decimal or binary terms.
Keep transfer rates separate
These are byte-based sizes, not bits per second. The tool does not estimate network overhead or download duration.
File Size Converter FAQs
No. 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes; 1 MiB is 1,048,576 bytes.
No. It converts a numeric measurement; use a compressor to change a file.
MB uses 1,000,000 bytes, while MiB uses 1,048,576 bytes. Dividing 1,000,000 by 1,048,576 gives about 0.954 MiB. The bytes have not changed; only the unit has. Check which convention an upload limit uses before comparing sizes.
