Force Converter

Force Converter lets you convert force through the newton: value × source factor / target factor. Enter your own values or load the worked example.

Method and calculation

Convert force through the newton: value × source factor / target factor. Factors relative to newton: N = 1; kN = 1000; MN = 1000000; lbf = 4.4482216152605; kgf = 9.80665; dyn = 0.00001.

Inputs and settings

Force Converter accepts Value (minimum 0); From unit (N, kN, MN, lbf, kgf, dyn); To unit (N, kN, MN, lbf, kgf, dyn).

Worked example

Force Converter example — Value: 1; From unit: "N"; To unit: "kN". Computed output: { "value": 0.001, "unit": "kN", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "newton" }

Output and limitations

Newtons describe a push or pull, while kilograms ordinarily describe mass. Kilogram-force uses standard gravity of 9.80665 metres per second squared. A spring scale calibrated for weight can therefore show different mass equivalents under a different gravitational acceleration.

Force Converter FAQs

Force Converter applies the following rule to your input: Convert force through the newton: value × source factor / target factor. The worked example on this page uses the same processor as the result button.
Force Converter has these boundaries: The force factors are fixed conversions. Unit labels specify the convention; no live data is fetched. Start by checking the value field against the units or format shown.
Force Converter provides this sample: { "value": 0.001, "unit": "kN", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "newton" }. Use the sample button to reproduce it, then replace the inputs with your own values.
