HTML Entity Decoder
Restore common named HTML entities and numeric character references to readable text. The decoded output is shown as text, not executed as a web page.
- Decode common named character entities
- Read decimal and hexadecimal references
- Display restored markup as plain text
Recover escaped punctuation
Decode amp, lt, gt, quot, apos and nbsp references when a copied snippet contains escaped symbols instead of punctuation.
Read numeric references
Decimal references and hexadecimal references identify characters by code point. They can represent symbols beyond the small named-entity set.
Leave markup inactive
A decoded script tag is just text in the result field. This tool does not render the decoded snippet as a document.
Check less common entity names
This decoder supports common names, not the complete HTML named-character table. An unsupported named reference may remain unchanged.
HTML Entity Decoder FAQs
No. Common names and numeric references are supported; uncommon named entities are outside this decoder’s scope.
No. Entity decoding restores characters; it does not strip markup or extract an article.
Paste the entity-encoded text and decode it once. The sequence & becomes &, while numeric references such as A become their characters. A double-escaped value may need another deliberate pass; inspect the result before using it elsewhere.
