Illuminance Converter

Illuminance Converter lets you convert illuminance through the lux: value × source factor / target factor. Enter your own values or load the worked example.

Method and calculation

Convert illuminance through the lux: value × source factor / target factor. Factors relative to lux: lx = 1; klx = 1000; phot = 10000; foot-candle = 10.76391041671.

Inputs and settings

Illuminance Converter accepts Value (minimum 0); From unit (lx, klx, phot, foot-candle); To unit (lx, klx, phot, foot-candle).

Worked example

Illuminance Converter example — Value: 1; From unit: "lx"; To unit: "klx". Computed output: { "value": 0.001, "unit": "klx", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "lux" }

Output and limitations

Illuminance measures visible luminous flux arriving per area. Lux and foot-candles are common in workplace lighting measurements. Lumens describe total luminous flux and candela describes directional intensity; neither can be converted to lux without geometric information.

Illuminance Converter FAQs

Illuminance Converter applies the following rule to your input: Convert illuminance through the lux: value × source factor / target factor. The worked example on this page uses the same processor as the result button.
Illuminance Converter has these boundaries: The illuminance factors are fixed conversions. Unit labels specify the convention; no live data is fetched. Start by checking the value field against the units or format shown.
Illuminance Converter provides this sample: { "value": 0.001, "unit": "klx", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "lux" }. Use the sample button to reproduce it, then replace the inputs with your own values.
