JSON String Unescape
Decode a complete quoted JSON string into readable text. Restore escaped line breaks, quotes and Unicode escapes while rejecting non-string JSON values.
- Restore JSON escape sequences
- Require a quoted string
- Display decoded text safely
Include the surrounding quotes
The input must be one JSON string literal. An unquoted word is not valid JSON string syntax.
Restore a Unicode escape
The literal "\u0041" decodes to uppercase A. Surrogate-pair escapes can represent supplementary characters such as emoji.
Reject the wrong value type
Arrays, objects, booleans and numbers may be valid JSON but are not strings. They receive a type error here.
Inspect text without execution
Decoded markup stays in a result text area. The tool does not evaluate JavaScript or render an HTML document from the result.
JSON String Unescape FAQs
JSON uses double quotes around strings. Single-quoted JavaScript literals must be converted to valid JSON first.
JSON string source cannot contain an unescaped control newline. Represent it with backslash-n inside the literal.
