Power Converter

Power Converter lets you convert power through the watt: value × source factor / target factor. Enter your own values or load the worked example.

Method and calculation

Convert power through the watt: value × source factor / target factor. Factors relative to watt: W = 1; kW = 1000; MW = 1000000; mechanical hp = 745.699871582; metric hp = 735.49875; BTU/h = 0.293071070172.

Inputs and settings

Power Converter accepts Value (minimum 0); From unit (W, kW, MW, mechanical hp, metric hp, BTU/h); To unit (W, kW, MW, mechanical hp, metric hp, BTU/h).

Worked example

Power Converter example — Value: 1; From unit: "W"; To unit: "kW". Computed output: { "value": 0.001, "unit": "kW", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "watt" }

Output and limitations

Power expresses energy transfer per unit time. Mechanical horsepower and metric horsepower are different magnitudes, so select the correct label from a motor specification. A kilowatt rating does not indicate total energy consumption until operating duration is also known.

Power Converter FAQs

Power Converter applies the following rule to your input: Convert power through the watt: value × source factor / target factor. The worked example on this page uses the same processor as the result button.
Power Converter has these boundaries: The power factors are fixed conversions. Unit labels specify the convention; no live data is fetched. Start by checking the value field against the units or format shown.
Power Converter provides this sample: { "value": 0.001, "unit": "kW", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "watt" }. Use the sample button to reproduce it, then replace the inputs with your own values.
