Torque Converter

Torque Converter lets you convert torque through the newton metre: value × source factor / target factor. Enter your own values or load the worked example.

Method and calculation

Convert torque through the newton metre: value × source factor / target factor. Factors relative to newton metre: N·m = 1; N·cm = 0.01; lbf·ft = 1.3558179483314; lbf·in = 0.1129848290276; kgf·m = 9.80665.

Inputs and settings

Torque Converter accepts Value (minimum 0); From unit (N·m, N·cm, lbf·ft, lbf·in, kgf·m); To unit (N·m, N·cm, lbf·ft, lbf·in, kgf·m).

Worked example

Torque Converter example — Value: 1; From unit: "N·m"; To unit: "N·cm". Computed output: { "value": 100, "unit": "N·cm", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "newton metre" }

Output and limitations

Torque quantifies the turning effect of a force acting through a lever arm. Although newton-metres also appear in work calculations, tightening torque is not energy consumption. Pound-inch and pound-foot differ by twelve; confusing them can produce a large fastener-setting error.

Torque Converter FAQs

Torque Converter applies the following rule to your input: Convert torque through the newton metre: value × source factor / target factor. The worked example on this page uses the same processor as the result button.
Torque Converter has these boundaries: The torque factors are fixed conversions. Unit labels specify the convention; no live data is fetched. Start by checking the value field against the units or format shown.
Torque Converter provides this sample: { "value": 100, "unit": "N·cm", "baseValue": 1, "baseUnit": "newton metre" }. Use the sample button to reproduce it, then replace the inputs with your own values.
