Grayscale Image
Convert a color picture into shades of gray or blend in a partial grayscale effect. Adjust the amount while retaining the image’s transparent areas.
- Use weighted RGB luminance for gray values
- Blend from original color to full grayscale
- Save the result as PNG
Choose the grayscale amount
At zero the original color remains; at full strength each pixel’s color channels share a gray value. Intermediate settings retain some color.
Preserve tonal structure
Weighted luminance gives different influence to red, green and blue rather than simply averaging them. Check whether your subject separates from its background.
Use gray for a neutral asset
Grayscale can help a photograph sit behind colored text or within a monochrome design. It does not automatically improve text contrast.
Distinguish gray from binary black and white
This tool retains intermediate tones. Use Black and White Threshold when every visible pixel must be either black or white.
Grayscale Image FAQs
No. Grayscale includes many shades between black and white.
The color adjustment retains the source alpha values.
Use grayscale for portraits and photographs that need smooth gray shading. Use Black and White Threshold when you need only two brightness values, such as a stencil-style draft. Threshold discards intermediate shades and can lose facial detail.
