Posterize Image
Simplify a photograph into stepped areas of color. Choose the number of levels per RGB channel to control how strongly tones are reduced.
- Choose 2–32 levels per color channel
- Create stepped tonal regions
- Preserve image dimensions and transparency
Choose the tonal step count
Fewer levels create a stronger poster effect. More levels retain smoother shading while still reducing channel precision.
Understand the palette size
The setting applies separately to red, green and blue. Two levels per channel can produce up to eight RGB combinations, not just two total colors.
Inspect gradients and faces
Posterization creates visible boundaries where smooth tones once existed. Adjust the level count until those boundaries suit the intended style.
Separate style from compression
Reducing color levels can change encoding size, but this is not an indexed-palette optimizer or a guaranteed file-size reduction tool.

No. The setting controls levels per channel, not a fixed four-color palette.
No. The output remains a PNG bitmap with simplified colors.
No. The setting applies separately to red, green and blue. Four levels per channel can produce up to 64 RGB combinations. Lower levels create stronger banding; this is not a fixed four-color palette quantizer.
