Sort Text Lines
Arrange a multiline list in ascending or descending order. Enable numeric-aware sorting to place item2 before item10 instead of comparing their digits as plain text.
- Sort in ascending or descending order
- Compare embedded numbers naturally
- Retain repeated entries in the list
Sort one entry per line
Paste your entries as separate lines, select direction and run the sorter. Text within each line stays together.
Handle numbered labels
Numeric-aware comparison recognizes digit sequences within labels. It is useful for file names and numbered items, not a substitute for a spreadsheet numeric parser.
Understand alphabetic ordering
Comparison uses English locale rules. A language-specific dictionary order may differ, especially for accented letters.
Separate sorting from cleanup
The sorter retains duplicates. Remove duplicate lines first or afterward only if every repeated entry should disappear.
Sort Text Lines FAQs
No. It reverses the ordering of whole lines, not the characters inside them.
No. It compares whole lines; use a table-aware editor for column-based sorting.
Enable numeric ordering and select ascending order. The comparison treats digit sequences naturally, giving item1, item2, item10. Without numeric ordering, text comparison can place item10 before item2. Repeated entries remain unless you deduplicate them separately.
